Oritsé Williams, better known as one quarter of the chart topping (and swoon-tastic) band JLS, has been awarded the prestigious ‘MS Inspiration of 2010 Award’ by the MS Society.
The award, which recognises someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the multiple sclerosis (MS) community, was presented to Oritsé for his efforts in raising awareness of the condition and reaching out to young carers.
Away working in the USA with the band, Oritsé couldn’t attend the ceremony, so he accepted the award via a pre-recorded video message. He said: “This is an absolutely incredible award. I’m so grateful and honoured to be the one chosen for this. I want to dedicate this to it with everyone out there who has helped to make a difference by supporting all the work that I’ve done to try to raise awareness about young carers and MS.”
Oritsé grew up caring for his Mum, who has secondary progressive MS. Last year Oritsé made an online film offering support to young carers and this year has supported the MS Society’s campaigning and fundraising efforts.
