Tyler, The Creator has likened U2's automatic album download onto iTunes user's accounts to "waking up with a pimple or herpes."
The rapper passed comment about the release on Friday September 12, tweeting:
GET OFF MY F**KING PHONE. YOU COULDNT COME UP WITH AN ACTUAL MARKETING IDEA? F**K @U2 I DONT WANT YOU. F**K BONO. I DIDNT ASK FOR YOU IM MAD

However, he appeared to do a complete 180 later on when he realised how smart the idea could be.
"Wow its kinda sick that they are on people's phone out of nowhere……Hmm…I kinda like the idea kinda……F**k Bono".
He wasn't the only artist critical however, with Bombay Bicycle Club telling NME that they thought it was an "invasive" move.
Jamie MacColl, guitarist for the band said: "I thought the move was quite invasive. A lot of people are up in arms because they don't like U2. I don't have an opinion on the band itself, but I do think the method is a little bit in your face."
The UK Albums Chart will not be including free downloads of 'Songs Of Innocence' until the official physical release on October 13.
This record is U2's first in five years, and Bono explained: "It has a lyrical cohesion that I think is unique among U2 albums. I don't want it to be a concept album, but the songs come from a place. Edge laughed and said this is our 'Quadrophenia'. We could be so lucky."
