The Charlatans' late drummer Jon Brookes will appear on the band's forthcoming new album.
Singer Tim Burgess told BBC 5 live: "He has left us a lot and we can piece together a few things. We have got one song and we think that it is fantastic.
"That to me is the starting point and it is the first time we have really agreed on a song completely in quite a long time.
"This particular one can feature Jon's drumming. The album will feature Jon, even songs that aren't written will include Jon in the writing. He's just going to be part of it."
Last month the band played tribute to Jon, who had also battled cancer after having a seizure on tour in 2010, by hosting a fundraising concert at London's Royal Albert Hall.
A number of big names, including Beady Eye, The Vaccines and members of Mumford & Sons, New Order and Manic Street Preachers performed to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity, of which The Charlatans are now patrons.
The band are working on their 12th studio album, which is the follow-up to 2010's 'Who We Touch'.
