The Libertines are back, having released the music video for their new single 'Heart Of The Matter' this week, showing off some poignant visuals directed by acclaimed photographer and film maker Roger Sargent.

Taken from their new album 'Anthems For Doomed youth', the song portrays the message of a self-destructive, celebrity-obsessed mainstream culture that we're all forced to live in.

Sargent says of the video: "The Libertines have never been a band to lack candour or bravery... almost to a fault. Their honestly, their friendship has played out, in the public domain often with catastrophic consequences."

The song also sees exploration from Pete and Carl on the self-inflicted damage and abuse they've caused over the years, with questions on how or why they've managed to survive.

"To that end, when we talked about making the video for the song we all felt it had to be similarly honest," Sargent adds. "The unsettling subjects could not be shied away from. On the contrary, these had to be faced head on."
