The ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ singer, 45, will ring in 2025 alongside Jessie Ware and Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears for the glitzy concert, according to The Sun.

Sophie is also reported to have recorded the special in London on Tuesday (17.12.24), with the outlet saying she was joined for the event by gospel choir MDL Singers.

It added she will duet with Jessie before teaming up with Jake for two songs – with The Sun reporting songs included ‘Filthy/Gorgeous’ and ‘Take Your Mama’.

The tie-in comes ahead of the Scissor Sisters’ 2025 reunion tour that will see the band play a series of arenas in the UK and Ireland to mark the 21st anniversary of their self-titled debut album.

Sophie’s show is set to start at 11.30pm and continue after the midnight fireworks.

Previous headliners of the traditional gig have included Rick Astley.

Made by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, Sophie told the corporation when the event was announced: “I always love a party, and I immediately think of sparkles, singing and dancing for a New Year’s Eve celebration and that’s what I’ll be bringing with me for my BBC One performance this New Year. “The band and I can’t wait, and we have some special surprises planned. I’m so honoured to have been asked to bid a fond farewell to 2024 with you all, and to welcome in an exciting 2025 together. Get your disco shoes ready! I’ll be wearing mine.”

Sophie revealed the news of the show Scott Mills’ BBC Radio 2 show.

Jonathan Rothery, head of popular music TV at the broadcaster, said: “BBC Music and BBC One have a long standing tradition of bringing the biggest stars in pop to audiences on New Year’s Eve.

“We’re thrilled that Sophie Ellis-Bextor, joined by some surprise guests, will be taking us into 2025, rounding off her already hugely successful year.”

Alison Howe, executive producer in entertainment and music at BBC Studios, added: “Dust off your glitter balls and dancing shoes – Sophie is set to light up the dance floor with her feelgood anthems as we welcome in the New Year.”
