Kesha's mother has managed to beat a New York defamation lawsuit filed against her by producer Dr. Luke.
Pop singer Kesha made headlines in October 2014 after filing a sexual abuse lawsuit against her former mentor, accusing him of subjecting her to years of physical, emotional, verbal and sexual abuse, claiming his actions were a catalyst in sending her to rehab in Illinois two years ago.
Dr. Luke then hit back with a lawsuit of his own, alleging that the singer and her parent Pebe Sebert had threatened to go public with stories about his alleged behaviour unless Kesha was released from her contract she signed with him and the management when she was 18.
Separate legal action was launched against Kesha's mother which accused her of fuelling her daughter's anger, but Wednesday, February 3 saw a New York judge dismiss the case, citing jurisdiction issues and claiming a lack of evidence to prove Sebert had "control" over Kesha.
Despite this small win, Dr. Luke's similar case against Sebert still hangs in the balance in Tennessee.
Last month should have seen a hearing regarding Kesha's own suit against Dr. Luke, but it was postponed to February 19 after a blizzard dominated the East Coast.
If she is successful in her bid on February 19, she'll be free to record new music with a new label.
