Sam Smith returned earlier this week with the release of his new single Pray, on which he’s collaborated with the brilliant Logic. Taken from his sophomore album The Thrill Of It All, but reworked for the duet, the single sees producer Timbaland work with Smith for the first time alongside collaborator Jimmy Napes.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Smith said: “We are all looking at what’s happening in the world and it is just messed up. You’ve got no choice but to look up to the sky and put your hands together and pray for something to happen, because I feel helpless as a human right now.”
The emotional song was performed by Smith during his time on Saturday Night Live last year ahead of his performance at The GRAMMY Awards, and plays a vital part in the setlist for the singer’s current tour across Europe, North and South America, Australasia and Asia. With 92 dates to play, Smith surely has his work cut out for him!
Smith has been in the spotlight for over three years now, having shot straight to the top of charts across the world with his debut album, and doing the same with his follow-up. Taking in an impressive slew of awards, including four Grammys, three BRITs, a Golden Globe and an Oscar.
We imagine that wave of success isn’t going to crash any time soon, and he’ll be singing us all some brilliant songs for the foreseeable future!
Pray featuring Logic is out now.
