The 30th annual ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 30 at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum which will see McCartney present the award to his former bandmate.

In a chat with Rolling Stone, Starr said that the prize shows "recognition" of his work.

He went on to add: "And it means, finally, the four of us are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame even though we were the biggest pop group in the land."

Other inductees for this year include Lou Reed, Bill Withers and Green Day.

Performances on the night will come from Eagles member Joe Walsh who'll perform tracks by Starr, whilst John Legend will perform Withers' tracks.

Patti Smith will induct the late Lou Reed and Beck will perform some of his own material, whilst Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joan Jett will also be inducted as well as the '5' Royales.

Meanwhile, Ringo Starr is gearing up to release his 18th studio album 'Postcards from Paradise' on March 30.
