An Ed Sheeran ballad has been confirmed for One Direction's forthcoming album.

Previously working with the singer on 'Little Things' and 'Moments', the band have now teamed up with him once more for new record 'Four'.

Speaking to MTV News Ed said: "I got a call from [Simon] Cowell the other day. But you never know, it might happen last minute where it's taken off, like that's how it works in this industry, so you never know."

The singer revealed previously that a "whole lot of... completely different" types of tunes were written by him for the group, one that had a "stadium rock" sound amongst others, but the group say the chosen track is less uptempo.

Zayn Malik explained: "The one that he wrote, more of a ballad. But I think we are going in that kind of lane. It sounds cool, we'll take that."

Ed had also said in the past how much he enjoys the company of the guys, and in particular, Harry Styles.

"I see Harry the most and probably get on with him best just because I see him the most and he was the first one that I met.

"I've known him the longest and we've shared a lot of mutual friends so probably Harry."
