One Direction have smashed another world record following their new album announcement, 'FOUR'.

Album track 'Fireproof' has become the most downloaded free track in history after just 24 hours online.

Downloaded a total of 1,089,278 times in the limited day period it was available to fans, it blew any competition out of the water.

The LP announcement on Monday was heralded with the free giveaway and since then, 'FOUR' has already hit number one on the iTunes Album Chart in 67 countries on pre-orders alone.

'Fireproof' is written by bandmembers Liam and Louis alongside John Ryan, Jamie Scott and Julian Bunetta.

New album 'FOUR' is scheduled for release on November 17.
