Nick Jonas believes it is "important to get vulnerable" on his new album.
The 'Jealous hitmaker is gearing up to release a heartbreak record, titled 'Last Year Was Complicated', about his split from Olivia Culpo and he insists he had no problem opening up about his heartache.
He said: "I mean, it's always difficult to open yourself up that way, but it's important to get vulnerable. Right now, at this moment, Beyoncé and Drake and all these artists are really embracing vulnerability; it makes a huge difference.
"I'm working my hardest to lay out my stories and my music and connect with my fans - and my own self - in that way."
The 23-year-old singer is also looking forward to touring with close pal Demi Lovato later this year and has promised excited fans "a night of music with intertwined sets".
Speaking to PEOPLE magazine at Live Nation's National Concert Day event in New York, he added: "I think that the thing that makes touring with Demi so exciting is: We're friends, obviously, but also our partnership with the record label we started and the ability to build a night of music and have it not feel like a festival lineup but a full show, with intertwined sets that'll keep it interesting for us and the fans."
Meanwhile, Nick previously revealed Jay Z helped him to pick a title for his album, which is slated for release in June.
He shared: "I had a title picked out. It was called 'Unhinged', it's one of the songs on the album.
"[Jay Z] said, 'Look, listen. As I've heard the whole body of work now and gotten to know you better, I don't feel like it quite sums up the story you're telling. So, let's just talk about this year of your life. What's it been like?' And I said, 'Last year was complicated.' And he was like, 'That's the title!'"
