Naughty Boy feels there is a real lack of "recognition" for songwriters.

The 'Runnin' (Lose It All)' tunesmith has produced and written songs for Beyoncé, Emeli Sandé, Rihanna and Sam Smith among others.

The producer accepts there is a distinction between singer/songwriters and performers who rely on other people to craft their tracks and he wishes the songwriters in the background were shown more love by the pop stars they give hits to.

The 'La La La' hitmaker - whose real name is Shahid Khan - thinks that a simple Twitter post would be enough acknowledgement.

Speaking on Will Gompertz's Heat Map show on BBC Radio 5Live, he said: "There are performers and songwriters. Songwriters suffer for the song. It's their story. There's nothing wrong with that, but credit needs to be given where it's due.

"Artists become fans of the writers and keep using them. But they don't really acknowledge them when they become big. It's about giving recognition to the others involved. We live in the social media age, all it would take is a tweet."

Naughty Boy has been busy working with Emeli on her second album - the follow-up to 2012's hit 'Our Version of Events' on which he produced many of the tracks.

The LP was due out at the end of 2015 but a decision was made to delay its release so it wouldn't clash with Adele's long-awaited third album and to give the pair the chance to make some changes to the album to ensure it is perfect.

Previously revealing why the decision was made to delay the LP, Naughty Boy said: "They (Adele and Emeli) can't go against each other. Nobody wants to. Adele's album is coming and labels have cleared their schedules because they know it's going to wipe the floor with everything. Emeli's album is coming out next year now."
