Midge Ure doesn't think Prince would like people covering his songs.
The 62-year-old singer - who met the late star on several occasions - doesn't feel it would be right to perform one of the 'Batdance' hitmaker's tracks as a tribute on his upcoming tour because he was such a "perfectionist" and probably wouldn't have liked many of the ones stars have performed in his memory.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, he said: "I don't think I will be paying tribute to Prince on tour. I don't think it is right for me to do that.
"He's an immense talent, but I don't think I'd do him any favours by doing 'Purple Rain' in my style.
"It would be interesting to find out if people appreciate people covering his songs. I'd imagine because he was such a perfectionist, he wouldn't have liked many of them. "He was very precious about what he did and did it very well. It would be difficult to top anything he did. To do something and do it better than the original is very rare. So I think he might have something to say about it. "
Several artists have performed covers of Prince's songs including Mumford & Sons, Mariah Carey and Noel Gallagher.
The Funk legend passed away at his Paisley Park estate last Thursday (21.04.16) at the age of 57.
Midge Ure's 'Something From Everything tour' starts October 21 through to December 2016. Tickets via www.midgeure.com
