Liam Payne is finding being a solo artist "difficult".
The 'Strip That Down' hitmaker admitted he's struggled to find his "lane" alone since One Direction went their separate ways but he's learning to "let go" and trust other people to help him achieve chart success.
He told The Sun newspaper: "It has been difficult. It is just so hard to base a sound.
"When you have a lot of guys doing a lot of different stuff, you are trying to figure out what your lane is. You don't really have a lane going solo, so you don't really know.
"But I am finding I am letting go a little bit more and not trying to edit in the room.
"It's not your place to decide if it is a hit or not."
But the 25-year-old singer could be reuniting with at least one of his bandmates soon, teasing he's been busy with Louis Tomlinson, who he has been tipped to be helping out with on 'The X Factor'.
He said: "I saw Louis recently for something that I cannot say."
And Liam is hopeful he will perform with Louis, Niall Horan and Harry Styles again in the future.
He said: "I've been in touch with Niall and Harry a little bit. I think it would be nice if we could get back together, but we'll see. In time. All in good time."
The 'Slow' singer has recorded some songs about his relationship with former girlfriend Cheryl - the mother of his 18-month-old son Bear - but he insists their break-up hasn't put him off performing the tracks, he just needs the right opportunity to do so.
He told the Daily Star Online: "We just haven't found the proper place to perform the songs yet.
"I'm not against performing them but we just haven't found the right space at the moment.
"Obviously with me not touring at the moment it is a difficult one.
"I am just trying to get my song book together properly at the moment and find the right things that represent me I guess.
"I'm not against performing them but we just haven't found the right space at the moment."
