Leona Lewis and Simon Cowells are now on good terms despite the pair's business relationship breaking down and Leona leaving his record label a few years back.
Signed to SyCo Music for a period of seven years before announcing that she'd parted ways from the record label, Leona is now back with her new album 'I Am', out on her new label Island Records, despite still having a lot of respect for Cowell.
Chatting to BBC News, Leona explained: "The thing is I had been with Simon's label for seven years and it was sort of naturally coming to the end really. It's all amicable and he's great and has been so supportive but it was just time to move on."
That decision wasn't something Leona took lightly however, and she did wonder whether or not she'd be able to keep her career's momentum going by making such a huge change.
"It was a hard decision because obviously being somewhere for a long time, building relationships, I loved the people I was working with, I had a great team around me. I loved working with Simon, so it was a hard decision, but it was just time for me to do something different."
Putting her all into her new album, Leona enjoyed the challenges that came with creating the record in a new environment.
"It's definitely been a process writing this album. I feel like the step away and kind of creating the album by myself really at first, independently, was quite liberating and empowering. So that is definitely a theme throughout the record. It touches on a lot of different things, different relationships, break-ups that I've been through but also kind of how I felt stepping away from my previous label and going out and doing things alone, it was kind of scary."
Leona's brand new album 'I Am' is out now, on Island Records.
