The 52-year-old singer topped the album charts on Friday (13.11.20) with her brand new album, ‘DISCO’, and in doing so made chart history as the very first female artist to have dominated the rankings in five consecutive decades.

Kylie has scored a number one album in the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and now the 20s, and in another new record for the singer, ‘DISCO’ also marks the biggest opening week of 2020 so far in the UK, with 55,000 chart sales.

The impressive sales goal is also Kylie’s biggest opening week in 10 years, since 2010’s ‘Aphrodite’.

And if that wasn’t enough records to break, Kylie has now surpassed the likes of Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard and George Michael in the all-time league of acts with the most UK Number 1 albums, with eight chart-toppers to her name.

In a statement, Kylie said of her new number one: “Official Charts Company, thank you so much! ‘DISCO’ has entered the charts at Number 1! I don’t know what to say, I’m lost for words, thank you to everyone who has supported this album and this campaign, it means the world to me. I’m so touched that it’s made it’s way to your hearts. I love it!”

The new number one entry means last week’s top album, Ariana Grande’s ‘Positions’, has slipped down to number three, with another new entry - Little Mix’s latest record, ‘Confetti’ - taking second place.

Sam Smith’s album ‘Love Goes’ has moved down from second to fourth, whilst the top five is rounded out by Dame Shirley Bassey, whose album ‘I Owe It All To You’ makes her the first female artist to claim a Top 40 album in seven consecutive decades.

Meanwhile, in the single’s chart, Ariana Grande has held on to the number one spot for the third week in a row with ‘Positions’ - which is taken from her album of the same name - whilst Little Mix have seen their song ‘Sweet Melody’ skyrocket from 12th to third following the release of their album.
