Kele Okereke and Bloc Party

Kele Okereke wasn't "prepared" for his solo career.

The 32-year-old singer has admitted he didn't think about the added responsibilities he would face going on his own after fronting the indie rock band Bloc Party.

He told The Guardian: "One of the great things about Bloc Party is we split the load in terms of art direction, press, etc ... I wasn't really prepared for how much it would fall on my shoulders."

However, the 'One Month Off' hitmaker - who is set to release his second solo album 'Trick' in October this year - quickly got used to the pressure and started to enjoy having more control over his music.

He explained: "I eventually came to really relish the fact that every artistic decision came from me."

The Liverpool-born singer - who plays rhythm guitar and sings lead vocals for the group, which is currently on an indefinite hiatus - also admitted he would have second thoughts about fronting the band if he had the chance to start again.

He said: "I always joke that if I did this again I'd make sure I was stood at the back of the stage and not the front. There is a lot of pressure on your shoulders when you're the vocal point of all that energy."
