Billboard have confirmed that Katy Perry registering a new song called '1984' with the intention of throwing shade at Taylor Swift is completely false, according to the singer's managers.

A rep for Katy at Universal told the outlet: "Katy Perry's managers at Direct Management Group confirm that this story is completely false. Katy Perry was not involved in writing, singing, recording or registering this song."

Meanwhile, Patrick Collier, one of the song's alleged co-writers took to Instagram and wrote a post about the song, captioning it "news to me" - that post was later deleted.

BMI simply confirmed that the song was registered back in September by BMG Platinum Songs, and '1984' is still listed on BMI's website with Katy Perry listed under the tag for 'Artists'.
