Karol G made history as the first female recipient of the Grammy for Best Música Urbana Album on Sunday (04.02.24).
The 32-year-old singer - who just made her acting debut in 'Griselda' - took home the relatively new prize, which has been won two years consecutively by Bad Bunny since its inception in 2022, for her acclaimed fourth studio album, 'Mañana Será Bonito'.
And she admitted she was both "super nervous" and "excited" to stand up in front of pop music's biggest stars, including Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, and more, to accept the accolade.
Speaking onstage at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles, she said: “Hi, my name is Karol G, and I am from Medellín, Colombia.
This is my first time at the Grammys, and this is my first time holding my own Grammy. I’m super happy, I’m super nervous, and I’m super excited to be in front of so many legends that I admire and respect. My album has given me the best memories of my whole life. My fans give me motivation and inspiration … I promise to give you my best always! I hope this is the first of so many.”
The reggaeton star previously shared how "psychologically heavy" sharing her personal life through her lyrics can be, and she admitted she suffered from anxiety before the record's release.
She told Rolling Stone magazine: "The two weeks before the album came out, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t eat.
Being so exposed in my music was very psychologically heavy.… Imagine something like this happening, and you have to tell millions of people what happened to you."
However, she will continue wearing her heart on her sleeve because it is "healing".
She explained: "I swear to you, even in the moments when I’ve been super mega in love, I still make music about heartbreak.
“You can put on the saddest songs in the world, and it’s as if you were killing yourself, but really, you’re healing.”
