Gerard Way believes My Chemical Romance's split in 2013 was "nobody's fault".

The group's former frontman, 37, admits he and his fellow bandmates, Mikey Way, Ray Toro, Frank Iero and James Dewees, were devastated by the break-up but they all agreed "it was time" to go their separate ways.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1, he explained: "I think we're all pretty upset. It wasn't an easy thing to come to. It was sad, because it wasn't a situation where anybody hated each other. It was nobody's fault.

"You should always be doing new things and changing and growing as a human being."

Gerard, who recently unveiled his first solo single 'Action Cat', is set to release his first solo LP this autumn and he admits he had no plans to quit music after his band's split.

He said: "I knew I had to keep going. I love music. I found a new love for music by making this record ... To run away from music or hide from it just because one stage of my life was ending? To me that would be really tragic to stop."

Gerard has also recently been added to the line-up at this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals, which takes place from August 22 until August 24, where he will play his first set of solo shows.
