Bee Gees' Barry Gibb

George Harrison and The Bee Gees are amongst the acts announced to be honoured with The Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The late Beatles legend passed away aged 58 in 2001, but joins the 'Saturday Night Fever' hitmakers, French composer Pierre Boulez, Buddy Guy, Tex-Mex accordionist Flaco Jiménez, the Louvin Brothers and Wayne Shorter in receiving Special Merit Awards in 2015.

Neil Portnow, Recording Academy President/CEO commented: "This year we pay tribute to exceptional creators who have made prolific contributions to our culture and history.

"It is an honour and a privilege to recognise such a diverse group of talented trailblazers, whose incomparable bodies of work and timeless legacies will continue to be celebrated for generations to come."

These recipients are to be honoured at a special event in Los Angeles on February 7, 2015.

The following day will see the Grammy Awards take place, in which the ceremony is to include a segment to make a forman acknowledgement of the Special Merit prizes.
