FKA Twigs was over the moon to be finally able to tell friends and family about her Barclaycard Mercury Prize nomination.
The singer described it as an "amazing" thing and said the people she wanted to share the news with first were her biggest supporters.
Speaking at The Hospital Club in London she said: "I've told all of my close friends and family about it and everyone's happy for me and it's just great to have the support of my friends and my family."
She insists that the nomination for debut album 'LP1' is not only for her, but the people who work so hard for her.
"The really cool thing is I work with a lot of my close friends, so my best friend is my stylist and my other best friend is my choreographer.
"It's very exciting to be able to include all these wonderful, creative people who I've met in the past seven or eight years living in London to be able to include them in my work and everyone's really happy for me."
The singer also dodged questions relating to her rumoured relationship with Robert Pattinson.
"I think that I like to keep my personal life personal, but I'm really excited to be here today and to be talking about my music and my album."
