Nickelback have throughout their career been the subject of much (arguably undeserved) criticism. It seems the band take a lot of stick for their music without much in the way of a proper argument being given for the reasons why, and now fellow musician Father John Misty has spoken out to defend the group in a new interview with NME.

He said: “I will ride for Nickelback, OK? Because this whole Chainsmokers thing I read about recently, when I was wasting time on the internet, and someone wrote some article about how horrible Nickelback is or something.

“’How You Remind Me’… That’s a f**king great song. Have you heard that song? It’s great.”

Asked what he loved about the track, he replied: “I don’t know. That’s the problem with the internet and social media and stuff: the stuff that you like, you can’t say what it is that you like about something. If you like something, it’s supposed to be beyond the intellectual. But I will ride for Nickelback – I want that on the record. ‘Farmer John Misery – I ride for Nickelback’.”

The Chainsmokers incident Misty is referring to is when the group were referred to as ‘The Nickelback of EDM’, before both bands responded to the apparent criticism by covering one another.

Meanwhile, Father John Misty is gearing up to release his new album ‘Pure Comedy’ on April 7. It comes after he worked with Lady Gaga on a song called ‘Come To Mama’, included on her latest album ‘Joanne’.
