Elton John has responded to claims he's planning to retire from the music industry after another string of live shows, denying what was said in the recent reports.

Taking to his Instagram account, Elton posted a picture of himself with Bernie Taupin in the 1960s, writing: "Don't believe what you read in the papers today. There is no truth to the rumors (sic) that I am planning to retire. In fact, I am looking forward to celebrating 50 years of collaborating with my partner-in-song, Bernie Taupin, next year.

The rumours seemed to begin circulating after Elton's appearance on The Graham Norton Show at the beginning of this year, where he said he wanted to spend more time with his children and husband.

At the time he explained: "I'm gradually going to wind down because I want to see my boys grow up. I mean, what's the point of having children if you don't spend time with them?"

Currently on the European leg of his tour, which finishes up in Dubai on December 15, Elton will begin another two-month residency in Las Vegas on December 28, taking place at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Tour dates in the US then follow, before he returns to the UK in June 2017 and wraps up his tour in Marbella, Spain in July 2017.
