David Bowie pays tribute to The Kings in a new compilation.

The iconic singer wrote the sleeve notes for the 48-track album 'The Essential Kings' - to be released in North America next month - and says there's not one song written by the band that he "didn't like".

Bowie recently posted a picture online of himself and the group's singer Ray Davies, where he made the comment.

An extract from the notes was also revealed, reading: "Of course, from their noisy and brash beginnings, The Kinks have come to stand for some of the most enduring and heart-clutching pop of all time. They are in the gut of every British songwriter who followed them and are indisputably a cornerstone of everything pop and rock. I love 'em. The world loves 'em."

He has in the past covered two Kinks songs - a version of 'Where Have All The Good Times Gone' in 1973 and 'Waterloo Sunset' three decades later.

Teaming up with the group's frontman in 2003, he performed the latter at the Tibet House Benefit in New York.
