Arcade Fire's 'Reflektor' cover
David Bowie makes a rare guest appearance on Arcade Fire's new song 'Reflektor'.
The Canadian rockers - led by Win Butler and Régine Chassagne - unveiled their comeback track last night (09.09.13), featuring backing vocals by the legendary singer, and packaged with the band listed as 'The Reflektors'.
The song was released as clocks struck 9pm in different time zones around the world.
A post on David Bowie's Facebook page, read: "We can confirm that David Bowie has supplied a brief backing vocal on the James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) produced track (no saxophone though), which is being issued under the alias of The Reflektors."
The new song - the band's first new material since 2010's 'The Suburbs' album - is also accompanied by two music videos. One is shot in black and white by Anton Corbijn and sees the group crawling through a forest, while the other is an interactive virtual projection by Vincent Morisset and Aaron Koblin. The second video was filmed in Haiti and features a young woman who travels between two worlds, with all of the video effects controlled by the viewer, reflecting how they move their smartphone or tablet during video playback.
Aaron explained the concept to Rolling Stone magazine, saying: "We wanted the user to participate in the experience. And rather than click the mouse or type on the computer, we wanted the interaction to be both unique and human.
"That's why we incorporated the phone and webcam as input devices. It lets the viewer participate in the music video, and do so in a novel way using gestures."
Further details of the band's new album have also been unveiled, with it also titled 'Reflektor' and the cover depicting the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice. It is set for release on October 29.
