Popular music festival, The Big Chill, has been cancelled due to worries about it clashing with this summer's Olympics.
Managing Director of Festival Republic, Melvin Benn, had looked into the possibility of changing the date of this year's festival, but festival fans had been reluctant for it to move, and another suitable date was difficult to arrange.
In a statemement on their website, he said: "Sadly, the artist availability and confirmations we were achieving led me to conclude that I couldn’t risk going ahead with the event as an outdoor event this year. Efforts are being made to look to bring a smaller event indoors this year with the anticipation of Big Chill being back outdoors in 2013."
It isn't the only festival on hold because of the Olympics. Fans were disappointed when it was announced that Glastonbury wouldn't be going ahead this year due to police and, would you believe it, portaloo, shortages. Organiser, Michael Eavis, said that although they have their own stock of the portable toilets, prices would be pushed up due to the demand for them at Olympic sites. And with the games also requiring an estimated 9,000 police officers every day, there won't be enough spare to ensure that there is no trouble at Glastonbury.
The Big Chill is held in the grounds of Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire, and is an alternative and dance music and comedy festival. Last year's line up included the likes of Kanye West, Jessie J, and Chemical Brothers, and this year's event was due to take place August 2-5.
