Camila Cabello says the "scariest part" of leaving Fifth Harmony was the unknown path she faces as a solo artist.
The 20-year-old singer - who made up one fifth of the girl group alongside Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui - quit the band in December 2016 and she is glad she took the risks involved with pursing a solo career as "expressing" herself has "become a necessity".
Speaking to the latest issue of FAULT magazine, she admitted: "I think the scariest part about it is leaving a successful project to pursue a new dream with a new path full of questions of self-discovery that only you can answer. But even when I feel so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of my former group, expressing myself as an artist became a necessity."
The 'Hay Ma' hitmaker also admits that she is a perfectionist and gets "frustrated" with herself when her music isn't 100 per cent how she would like it to be.
Asked about the pressure to get things perfect, she said: "I've always felt pressure to get everything perfect, and I've never gotten there, but I think that's what keeps me growing, and keeps me frustrated with myself and keeps me reaching. I think if you're ever comfortable and think 'wow. this is it. I've figured it out.', you stop trying and you stop growing."
The brunette beauty is gearing up to release her debut solo album and says she would often write for herself throughout her five years in the 'Work From Home' group.
She said: "I was always writing, not necessarily for myself, but just because I really wanted to be a songwriter. I think as I was writing I found my own voice as an artist and as a person, and I'm discovering more about it every day."
Camila has enjoyed the freedom to work with different writers and producers on mastering her "own musical vision".
Asked what the best part of her solo journey has been so far, she said: "Working with so many talented writers and producers and following my own musical vision. I love the ability to create something out of nothing altogether."
Little is known about Camila's LP, but she is hoping to release it in autumn.
She said: "I hope to release my first few songs before summer and then go from there and hopefully an album in the Fall."
