Emeli Sande and Ben Howard were the big winners at last night’s BRIT awards, with both walking off with a duo of trophies from the awards gala.
This wasn’t an evening filled with shocks though, as many of the awards went to the pre-show favourites and there only really being a surprise (for us at least) when Ben Howard walked away with the publically voted for Best British Newcomer as well as his expected victory for Best British Male
Emeli Sande took home the prizes for Best British Female and Best British Album, the biggest award of the night to cap off an amazing year for the Scottish singer, which has seen her become the biggest selling artist of 2012.
Adele didn’t let another BRITs go by without snagging at least one award, scooping up the prize of Best British Single with her massive Bond theme Skyfall. She may not have been able to be there to collect the award, as she’s off rehearsing to perform the track at this weekend’s Oscars, but it was good to see the first lady of British music still making her presence felt.
Mumford & Sons upset One Direction’s evening by taking home Best British Group, but the boy band consoled themselves with the Global Success Award.
Perhaps the biggest cheer of the night though was reserved for Frank Ocean, who was greeted with rapturous applause when he was named as the Best International Male, maybe a reaction to his repeated snubs at the Grammys.
The other American winners on the night were The Black Keys who won Best International Group, while Lana Del Rey won a second BRIT award in as many years by taking home the prize for Best International Female.
