The 27-year-old singer won awards for British Female Solo Artist, British Single for 'Hello' and Mastercard British Album Of The Year for '25' and also took home the BRITs Global Success Award, which was presented by astronaut Tim Peake live from the International Space Station.

She also closed the show with an incredible performance of 'When We Were Young' but admitted that she was in a state of shock.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz, she said: "I feel a bit worn out emotionally. It feels absolutely incredible. I was hoping to win one but to get that many was amazing. I'm very lucky.

"I've watched it since I was last here and had a bit of a yearning just to be here and not nominated. I missed the bustle of it all."

Upon accepting her third award, the Global Success gong, Adele was overcome with emotion and admitted that she had been worried her comeback would not be a success.

The star - whose latest album '25' has topped the charts all over the world - said: "I can't work out if I'm crying because of that video [of her career highlights] or because Tim Peake did it. My kid is going to think I'm so cool.

"I got so lost for a while and didn't know if I could come back and for you all to be so kind to me is amazing. I want to thank my manager and my amazing boyfriend."

However, Adele lost out to One Direction in the fan-voted category British Artist Video Of The Year which they won for 'Drag Me Down'.

Coldplay, who kicked off the show with a performance of 'Hymn for the Weekend', won the British Group award - making them the most successful group in this category in Brit history, having won in 2001, 2003 and 2012.

Meanwhile, other winners at the Brit Awards 2016, in association with Mastercard, included James Bay, Tame Impala, Justin Bieber, and Bjork.

Bay, Bieber, Jess Glynne, Rihanna and Drake and Little Mix all performed at the ceremony, which was hosted by Ant and Dec at London's O2.
