Wyclef Sued For Illegal Song Sample....

Wyclef Jean has been hit with a lawsuit for copyright infringement, after New York rapper Blahz accused him of illegally sampling his 1996 hit Danger on his new single, Welcome To The East.Brooklyn Mc Blahz - real name Martell Ellis - recently filed the suit in Manhattan U.S. District Court, claiming Jean used the 12-year-old song without permission. The former Fugees frontman is named alongside his record label Sony Bmg, in the suit. And Ellis, who is rumoured to be seeking $50 million (#25 million) in damages, claims he felt obliged to take legal action to show major record labels and artists that they cannot take advantage of smaller, lesser-known acts.In a statement, Ellis says, "Being a part of the music industry over the past decade has been a rewarding experience, but I've also witnessed, first-hand, artists such as myself getting taken advantage of and legally violated by record labels and 'big name' artists alike - not to mention commercial artists constantly stealing from the underground."I was left with no choice but to move forward with my decision to take full legal action against Wyclef Jean, and Sony Bmg, on behalf of myself and the all the artists around the world who have been the victim of blatant disrespect."A message has to be delivered to the music industry that these unjust common business practices can't be ignored or swept under the rug anymore."
