October saw the long-awaited release of Veronica Falls’ self-titled debut album on Bella Union, and very special it was too - a beautifully concise collection of brilliant yet blighted pop songs, like Beat Happening with a dark mind, or the Pastels after the werewolf’s bite.
The record quickly found admirers both here (Loud and Quiet, the Guardian, Times Review) and in the US (with Pitchfork saying it was like 'the ghosts of pop past conjured convincingly and intimately enough to feel like flesh and blood'), with the record even making many end of year lists, including Rough Trade, Loud and Quiet and The Fly.
Now, following sell out shows across the UK, the band are planning a string of live dates across the country and in Europe early next year, beginning with Brussels and taking in UK dates in Norwich and Leeds.
