Shirley Bassey 'Too Lazy' For Opera....

Veteran singer Dame Shirley Bassey nearly became an opera singer - but admits she was too lazy to put in the practice.The Goldfinger hitmaker - who has performed the title songs for three James Bond movies - was put off by the gruelling training regime required of opera singers and chose to stick with her trademark big band music instead..She says, "My vocal coach said if I'd had the right training, I could have been an opera singer. I would have been a contralto, not a soprano."I'd have been a good candidate but I'm basically very lazy, and opera singers have to train every day."Meanwhile Dame Shirley Bassey has backed British soul star Amy Winehouse to sing the next James Bond theme tune.Bassey has sung the title song for a record three James Bond movies - Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker - and is urging the film bosses to hire the Rehab hitmaker for the next spy-franchise installment.The 70-year-old says, "There aren't many female artists of her generation with such an unusual sound. I can't think of anybody better to sing the Bond theme tune."
