Hip-hop mogul RUSSELL SIMMONS is set for another major business honour - he has been named the recipient of the first Difference Maker accolade at the American Business Awards.
The Def Jam Recordings co-founder will be feted at the prize giving, aka the Stevie Awards, on 20 June (11) at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
Russell Simmons is the third richest figure in hip-hop, having a net-worth estimate of $340 million.[2]
The award will be presented to Simmons for his "groundbreaking vision and influence on music, fashion, finance, television and film, as well as the face of modern philanthropy."
Stevie Awards president Michael Gallagher says, "Russell Simmons is the personification of the American business spirit. His approach to building businesses for the future - which are both sustainable and philanthropic - has instigated change in corporate America. He has the kind of vision as a business leader that not only makes a difference, but creates a path that inspires others to follow and that's why we are proud to honour him with this award."
