Following his June 8th show at London Forum selling out in a matter of weeks, Richard Hawley is pleased to announce his biggest UK show to date at Brixton Academy on October 3rd.
The Brixton Academy show will be part of a nationwide tour, which will be announced in due course. The tour will be in celebration of Hawley’s much anticipated seventh studio album Standing At The Sky’s Edge, which will be released on May 7th through Parlophone Records.
The first single from the album, Leave Your Body Behind You - Single Of The Week this week on Shaun Keaveny’s 6Music breakfast show - finds Hawley, inspired by the grief felt at the passing of friends, contemplating our place in the cosmos, coming on all 13th Floor Elevators in a celebratory valediction - urging us to accept how tiny we are in the grand scheme of things and to try and make the most of the time we have. It is available now as a one-track download and two-track versions - both with bonus track You Haunt Me - will be available as a special Record Store Day 10" and a two-track download released respectively on April 21st and May 7th. The single perfectly encapsulates what is to be found on Hawley’s forthcoming album, ‘Standing At The Sky’s Edge’.
Recorded at Sheffield’s Yellow Arch Studio in 2011, the album marks a seismic shift in direction for Hawley.
A euphoric, sonic assault on the senses, channelling elements of psychedelia, space rock and ragas with heavy riffs and raw, visceral guitar solos - as well as more familiar, tender moments - it will surprise Hawley fans and peers alike.
