British music is at the height of its power right now, with Adele having taken over America and earning an Oscar nomination, Emeli Sande selling more albums than anyone ever thought and One Direction commanding an army of fans so big they could overthrow a small South American nation.
It’s not just the current crop of artists that are making Brits proud though, as recent survey has shown that nearly two thirds of Brits are proud of their musical heritage.
British broadband provider Plusnet asked 2000 people and found out that we as a nation are more proud of our musical culture than our film or TV industries.
Interestingly enough, despite the wide age range who answered, it was Queen and The Beatles who jointly won the poll, both getting a score of 71%.
The newly Oscar and Bafta nominated Adele came in third, with 48% of respondents saying they were proud of her, with Pink Floyd and Oasis rounding out the top five with 46% and 32% respectively.
Speaking about the results, Plusnet CEO Jamie Ford said, “It’s fascinating to see that it's the bands that have been successful over a period of time, rather than the most contemporary artists, which have topped the poll.”
