Pop legend Prince has sold his most prized gold guitar to an unexpected biddeer at an auction in Racer Lewis Hamilton.
The Formula 1 hunk, who is dating pussycat doll Nicole Scherzinger, bought the Fender Stratocaster for $100,000 (GBP62,500) at a charity auction.
The purple rain singer has on many occassions expressed his feelings for the guitar stating that when the time comes, it would be hard to let the guitar go.
However the guitar which was custom bought by Prince to be used on his Welcome to America tour which ends on Saturday in Los Angeles, is now on it's way to Hamilton after he spent a pretty penny on it.
The race ace bought the guitar after his hero pulled him up onstage during a recent show after the 2010 Grand Prix in Dhubi and serenaded Scherzinger while playing it.
The guitar, which was made by Fender's custom shop in Corona, America is fully plated from top to bottom by gold leafing. The guitar was made by an ex soviet union resident Yuriy Shishkov who moved to America to make guitars after the Soviet government disaproved of anyone making their own products.
Once he was free to create his own instruments it was then that Prince' representation approached him for the difficult task.
Shishkov said, "I mentioned that I had never built a guitar that would be completely gold leaf. I was asked, ‘Why you never did it?’ I said, ‘Nobody ever asked for it."
The money will benefit the Harlem Children’s Zone, a communityy organization that serves more than 17,000 children.
