PSY has got himself into the hall of Guinness World Record holders with his song Gangnam Style, as it has become the most ‘liked’ video on the website YouTube.
I’m honoured. This is the first certificate I’ve ever had… I didn’t get one at school
The South Korean musician has set the internet ablaze with his super catchy song, and it’s brilliant video has gotten more than 4.9 million ‘likes’, making it a new record holder.
Despite the video only being uploaded on July 15th, the song has gone on to claim number one spots around the world (making him the only Korean artist to have done so) and get over 672 million views so far.
The 4.9 million ‘likes’ also puts him way out in front of his competitors, with Justin Bieber’s baby with 1.3 million and LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem having clocked up over 1.6 million, despite both songs having been around for much longer.
Psy received the prestigious award today during an interview with Scott Mills, who championed the single, at BBC Radio 1. Upon receiving the surprise certificate, PSY said “I’m honoured. This is the first certificate I’ve ever had… I didn’t get one at school”.
Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief, Craig Glenday, who presented the certificate at the radio studio said: “I think Psy looked touched to receive his certificate, he even asked if he could keep it! We’re pleased to present his official certificate to such a global phenomenon.
"Gangnam Style is an infectious, joyous song that has brought a smile to the faces of a tenth of the world's population, and the result is that it's the most liked video of any kind in the history of YouTube!”
