Muse have charged to the top of the European album charts after their new release, The Resistance, claimed number ones in the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Ireland, Norway and Switzerland.
The album's 148,000 first-week sales in the U.K. make the release the biggest debut there this year, and Muse beat former Dire Straits star Mark Knopfler, whose new album Get Lucky debuts at two on the European charts, while former chart-toppers Whitney Houston (I Look To You) and David Guetta (One Love) fall to three and four respectively.
Meanwhile, Guetta's Sexy Chick holds off a charging Madonna (Celebration) to claim a third week atop the European Hot 100 Singles.
