Guitarist Leslie West is recovering after emergency surgery to remove part of his right leg.
West, who is diabetic, was taken to a Biloxi area hospital in Mississippi at the weekend (19Jun11) after his leg began to swell up before a concert.
Doctors had to amputate the limb below the knee to save his life.
The 65 year old is expected to fully recover.
As Mountain's frontman, West has enjoyed hits with Mississippi Queen and Theme for an Imaginary Western. He is also a regular on shock jock Howard Stern's satellite radio show.
