We all knew it wouldn’t take long for Michal Jackson’s life to be made into a movie, and it seems that High School Musical director Kenny Ortega has been the one to snap it up.
According to Variety, Sony Pictures is paying more than $50 million (£30.3 million) to AEG Entertainment for the rights to the 80 hours of rehearsal footage showing Jackson preparing for his London comeback gigs.
AEG gave all major Hollywood studios a super exclusive screening last week, with Fox, Universal, Paramount and Relativity all cracking out the popcorn whilst checking out Jacko’s impressive moves.
However it was Sony who eventually emerged as the frontrunner for the rights, as its sister company, Sony Music Entertainment, owns the publishing rights to Jackson's back catalogue.
What’s more, as it was Ortega was the one who filmed the rehearsal footage and was the big cheese behind Michael’s live choreography at the O2 in London, he has already started assembling the footage and is expecting to have the movie in cinemas before the end of the year.
