Veteran entertainer Liza Minnelli fought back tears on Monday as she was honoured with France's top cultural award.
The Oscar-winning Cabaret star was presented with the Legion d'honneur at a special ceremony in Paris and she struggled to maintain her composure as Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand pinned the medal to her jacket.
Tearing up, Minnelli admitted she was overwhelmed by the recognition and was "honoured to be a part of France, a part of Paris".
Addressing spectators at the event, she said, "Thank you for watching me, thank you for caring about me."
Minnelli will perform at Paris' fabled Olympia music venue on Monday night.
