Joe McElderry’s physical release of The Climb has hit shelves today, and apparently the Geordie kid WILL snatch the number one spot from Rage Against The Machine over the course of the next few days.
Whilst a Facebook group has propelled RATM’s 1992 hit, Killing In The Name Of, to the top of the download charts, it looks as though the die-hard X Factor fans will be rushing out in their thousands to buy the CD as a stocking filler for loved ones. (Poor things)
What’s more, the X Factor winner will be signing copies of the single in South Shields later this afternoon, which is bound to push sales… especially since it doesn’t look like there are any physical copies of RATM’s single out in stores, which obviously means they have to rely on internet downloads alone.
So, it looks pretty likely that Joe will become the fifth X Factor winner in a row to land the Christmas number one, but do you think it’s right that this coveted chart position is won rather than earned nowadays? Especially since Joe has never even HEARD the competition’s song!
