Janet Jackson has parted ways with Island Records, and is planning to go it alone after the sales disappointment of her most recent album Discipline. The pop superstar, who is currently on tour, announced the news through a representative on Monday. In a statement, the rep said, "At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship. Now, more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album Control, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system."Jackson went public with her label dissatisfaction in June, when said; "I'm trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they (label bosses) just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album, so I don't think you're going to hear another single off this album."Jackson signed to Island Records in July 2007.
