Remember how Susan Boyle’s Britain’s Got Talent audition became a YouTube phenomenon? Well it looks like we’ve got another one on our hands after Danyl Johnson’s video has been viewed 3 million times!
I know the X Factor can sometimes make you want to throw your TV out of the window, and you will be forgiven for wondering why the heck some of the auditioned think they have a cat in hell’s chance of winning, but after just one television appearance, the 27-year-old teacher from Reading has restored my faith in music once again!
In less than a week Danyl has become a star on both sides of the Atlantic and I’m pretty sure he’s made us all wish our school teachers had looked like him - that way we might have gone to class a bit more!
After the clip was shown on the Today show in the US, the presenter, Matt Lauer asked: “Has the world found it’s next Susan Boyle?” he urged viewers to watch Johnson’s performance online and said: “He’s got great range, but he’s also got this incredible presence. It’s just extraordinary how he captivated the audiences and these judges.”
Amazing then, that Danyl had tried out for the show once before but failed to make the cut… it just goes to show how we sometimes lose the great auditioned as the show producers focus on getting the downright terrible ones through to the judging panel in a bid to boost ratings.
His tear-jerking performance of With A Little Help From My Friends bagged him a standing ovation from the judges, with Simon Cowell announcing; “That was single-handedly the best first audition I have ever heard.”
I think I’d be inclined to agree with old Mr Nasty! But what do you think?
