Whitney Houston can't wait for fans to see her movie comeback as Jordin Sparks' mum in new film Sparkle because the project is a powerful one for modern women.

The film was slated to star tragic R&B singer Aaliyah before she perished in a plane accident a decade ago and the film has taken the last 10 years to develop without the late star.

Now Houston admits she's "honoured" and "humbled" to be part of the cast of a new film she is convinced is going to be a big hit among mothers and daughters all over the globe.

In an exclusive interview with Access Hollywood, The Bodyguard star says, "I think everybody’s going to love this film.

"This was [Aaliyah’s] movie. When we brought it to her, she was so enthusiastic about it and she wanted it, to do it so badly.

"She was our Sparkle. Unfortunately... it just didn’t go that way. I put it down. I said, 'My Sparkle has gone to a better place'. Then we just left it alone."

Now Houston, who has fought drug issues and a fading career in the past 10 years, insists she's in exactly the right place to do the role and the film justice.

"I just, I felt it. I felt the role. I felt the love a woman has for her children - in the ‘60s... trying to keep her family together, a single mother."
