Tupac Shakur

A group of online hackers has confessed it is responsible for a hoax story suggesting rapper TUPAC SHAKUR is alive, which blasted through cyberspace over the weekend (29 May 11).

The group, known as Lulz Boat, attacked PBS TV's official site on Sunday, and posted a story headlined, 'Tupac Still Alive in New Zealand'.

The hackers have since publicised the prank in a series of tweets, explaining they did what they did after taking exception to a PBS special about jailed U.S. soldier Bradley Manning, who is accused of supplying the WikiLeaks organisation with sensitive military and diplomatic information.

One tweet reads, "We just finished watching WikiSecrets and were less than impressed."

Due to PBS' reputation for hard, solid news, many networks picked up the Tupac story and began researching it.

The rapper was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996.
