Rolling Stone magazine editors have landed guitar greats Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck’s first joint interview.
The two Brits agreed to chat to the publication's David Fricke on the eve of their first-ever co-headlining tour, and Clapton reveals the collaboration between the pair could not have come sooner - because they used to hate each other.
The Layla hitmaker, who was replaced by Beck in the Yardbirds in the 1960s, confesses, "We were enemies, basically."
Clapton tells Rolling Stone he expected the Yardbirds to fall apart after he left the band - and he was "hurt" when Beck signed on as his replacement. He explains, "I wanted to be as critical of him as I could. It hurt me bad because I could see they (Yardbirds) were getting, with Jeff, at something beyond what I was capable of."
