She may have only taken a nominal £1 fee for performing at the Olympics, but it could just be Emeli Sande’s biggest payday by some margin.
Her latest track Read All About It (Part III) entered the charts at number 3, riding off that wave of good will from her cracking performance at the Olympics.
Her album sales have rocketed up as well, with her debut Our Version of Events climbing back on top of the pile and getting to within 26,000 copies of Adele’s 21 to become 2012’s biggest selling album. That 21 was released in January last year says something though…
She’s not the only one to be riding the wave of Team GB gold though, as George Michael’s White Light debuted at number 15 in the singles chart (surely much higher than they could have hoped for), with both Muse’s Survival and John Lennon’s Imagine both re-entering the singles charts.
It was Elbow who made the biggest splash though, as their track One Day Like This hit a new peak of four following their performance at the ceremony. Not bad going for a release that only hit number 35 when it came our four years ago.
Kate Bush came back with a vengeance too, with Running Up That Hill smashing back in to the charts at number 6, three spots higher than it entered back in 1985. With her album coming back in just outside the top 20 too, it was a fantastic week for the .
It’s here in the album charts that we see the biggest movers though, with Elbow and The Spice Girls shooting up the charts, now siting at number 6 and 18. Those are rises of 133 and 146 spots to put that in context. With Madness and The Kinks also getting back into the top ten, it’s seems that festival of British music triggered a few people’s memories really well.
