Emeli has out-sold Joe Bonamassa, who entered at Number 2 in the chart with ‘Driving Towards The Daylight’, by less than 100 copies, according to the Official Charts Company.
Bonamassa was favourite to take the top spot in the mid-week chart. ‘Driving Towards The Daylight’ is the New York guitarist’s 13th studio album and it’s his highest ever UK entry.
Victorious Adele still holds firm in the Top 5 with ‘21’ climbing one place to Number 3 and John Mayer scored a personal best, entering the charts at Number 4 with his new album ‘Born and Raised’.
Following the death of Robin Gibb last weekend, ‘The Bee Gees’ Number Ones’ has reached Number 5 in the UK Album Chart. The group’s greatest hits record, ‘The Ultimate Bee Gees’, also re-enters at Number 35.
Elsewhere, Australian The Temper Trap are at Number 17 with their second, self-titled album. St Etienne are at Number 26 with 'Words and Music' and ex-Guns 'N Roses Slash is at Number 27 with his 'Apocalyptic Love'.
In the UK Singles Chart, FUN finally reach Number 1, after seven weeks on the chart, with 'We Are Young'. They beat off stiff competition from The Wanted, who could only settle for the second spot with 'Chasing The Sun'.
‘Call Me Maybe’ by Canadian popster Carly Rae Jepsen is a non-mover at Number 3, while Rita Ora’s ‘RIP’ slips to Number 4. Alex Clare completes the Top 5 with ‘Too Close’.
